Well what can we say………over 500 entries and nearly everyone of them were worthy winners! You certainly made it difficult for us. So difficult in fact we actually came up with four runners ups and some super prizes for the school entries.
The overall winner was six year old Alexander Cowley from Bedford who wrote his own letter all about his Mum, Sue. Alex helped to present the wonderful hamper and flowers to his Mum and was very pleased to have won something special.
‘I would just like to say a big thank you for the Mothers Day Hamper and flowers. I was thrilled with it. It was a fantastic surprise, it was very kind of you to bring it over. The kids are thrilled with the Railway Children tickets. My daughter has just read the book at school and asked whether she could go and see it so that was absolutley brilliant. I am looking forward to the beauty treatment as this is something I wouldn’t normally do. It also made Alex’s day and he hasn’t stopped telling everyone!
Thank you so so much….a brilliant prize.
Best wishes
Sue Cowley ‘
We would just like to say a huge thank you for all the wonderful donations, all were from local businesses and without them none of this would have been possible.
So another thank you for your contributions but in particular to:
-
-
- 5th Avenue
- The Kiln
- The Corn Exchange
- Lily Rose Flowers
- The Body Shop
- Jazzercise
- Grove Family Bar & Restaurant
- M&S
But we also wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of you! The entries really were wonderful and we hope that every mother had a lovely day.

150 brave souls helped us plant over 1,000 trees on 30th November. Our next event will again be at Rectory Wood, Cranfield.
Planting a tree really is an excellent way to feel you are doing something worthwhile. It’s not hard work but it is great fun and a good way to get a bit of exercise.
Tools, tea (and soup), training and of course trees are all provided. There’s even a loo. Please come and bring loads of enthusiasm and some warm clothes. The weather may be fantastic!
We will once again be laying on free buses, running every 15 minutes or so from the Forest Centre and from car park 1A at Cranfield University, between 10.45am and 3.15pm. Please don’t park in Rectory Lane - it’s just too narrow.
More information call 01234 767037.

Here are 30 great garden bird facts - one for every year of Big Garden Birdwatch!
Posted in Articles, Charity & Community |
Monday, January 19th, 2009
January 24, 2009 to January 25, 2009
Thirty years is a long time. Back in 1979 Margaret Thatcher became prime minister, Trevor Francis became Britain’s first million pound footballer and the RSPB launched Big Garden Birdwatch. To mark the 30 years we’re having a party and we’d love you to join us!Over the last 30 years you’ve clocked up more than three million Big Garden Birdwatch hours watching and enjoying the birds in your gardens. That’s more than 380 years - wow!
Around 400,000 people take part each year, that’s a lot of people! Here are three reasons why you should help us celebrate our 30th birthday:
Reason 1: It’s fun - You just never know what you’re gonna see! It’s also a great opportunity to spend time with friends, family and children.
Reason 2: It’s easy - You can stay in your armchair and just stare out the window! In fact you’re more likely to see more birds if you don’t go into the garden and disturb them.
Reason 3: It’s quick - It only takes an hour (or 60 minutes or 3,600 seconds…)
Or you can look at this two ways - 1: By giving up one hour you’re making a real difference to our knowledge of garden birds. We’ll be able to tell which ones are doing well and which need our help. Or 2: treat yourself to an hour watching the birds in your garden. Go on, life’s hectic enough so give yourself a break and enjoy the wildlife around you.
Big Garden Birdwatch has grown into the world’s biggest wildlife survey. We really hope that on its 30th birthday, people all across the UK, including you, will join in the celebrations by spending an hour watching the birds in your garden.
So, at some point over 24-25 January put an hour aside for you and the birds. You can find out more and submit your results at www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch or call 0300 456 8330 for a participation form.
